ABOUT

Memory Spaces explores the relationship between space and memory. The project starts from the idea that places can carry traces of the people, emotions and experiences associated with them. I became interested in familiar spatial archetypes (the living room, dining room or study) and in how these spaces can become deeply connected to our memories.

Inspired by Christian Boltanski's Le Cœur and Les Archives du Cœur, I wanted to explore this relationship through a digital environment. The spaces are represented as fragmented point clouds, remaining recognisable while becoming blurred and dislocated, echoing the way memories can persist without remaining entirely intact. The heartbeat became a way to introduce something intimate and physical into this digital space: a shared biological rhythm that makes the environment feel alive, intimate, but also strangely familiar.

I sourced scans corresponding to these different spatial archetypes and transformed them into point clouds using Blender's Geometry Nodes. I then developed animated prototypes before bringing the environments into Unreal Engine and connecting them to TouchDesigner, allowing the heartbeat data to influence the intensity of the light in real time.
